Beginning in his early teens, Dana played piano, guitar and drums for various jam bands and solo gigs in coffee shops. He embarked on a professional musical journey as a drummer for the rock band, Fresh Water Duck, in '74. Despite his passion for music, life led him into mechanical design and engineering, eventually specializing in R&D for repair and maintenance of global nuclear power plants.
In 2014, illness brought Dana's bustling life to a halt, culminating in a life-saving transplant in 2017. During his long recovery, a gift from his wife, a piano, became his tool for rebuilding his mind and coordination.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Dana returned to music, his long lost love, composing songs that reflected the highs and lows of his journey. Encouraged by Jane Siberry's kind words, his music became a channel for emotions, resulting in two demo EP's and a single. "One Blue Heart" served as a cathartic release, echoing past trials, while the single "Breathing Air" delved into the depths of a nightmare he had while in a post-op induced coma. The "Falling Away" EP, born amidst the pandemic, intertwined hope with despair, a testament to resilience and gratitude.
Beyond the melodies, Dana has become a vocal advocate for organ donation, a testament to the transformative power of second chances. His music stands as a beacon of hope, reminding us that even in the darkest times, there's always a song worth singing.
